My youngest brother, Matthew, just received his acceptance letter to the United States Coast Guard Academy!! Congratulations! I'll brag on him a little...
Founded in 1876, the Coast Guard Academy is located on the Thames River in New London, CT. Here's a link to their website(http://www.cga.edu/). Its the smallest of 5 U.S. federal military academies and is highly selective in who they accept. Thousands of prospective students apply each year and approximately 10% are offered an appointment!! It is ranked among the most elite undergraduate colleges in the United States. Each accepted cadet receives a full scholarship, a monthly stipend and is guaranteed an exciting leadership position upon graduation. Graduates are obligated to serve 5 years in the Coast Guard, though many choose to stay longer.

*1 to 9-ratio of instructors to students
Matthew will take on a rigorous assignment over the next 4 years. He will be challenged academically, physically, and professionally. He plans to pursue a degree in electrical engineering and compete on their varsity swim team. I know he will prevail! Off to duty...June 2008!
